Through the Glass Menagerie turned 2 today!
A spectacular article by the Adelaide City Messenger and Advertiser.
let’s start the review.
"HORDES of skateboarders… as many as 20 skaters”
The definition of horde being: a large group of people / an army or tribe of nomadic warriors. Well. If we were talking about class sizes in the primary school system I’m sure they wouldn’t be calling a class of 20 students a horde.
The measurements of the half of Victoria Square that has been redeveloped thus far, where these apparent hordes are, is around 100m x 100m, this is one hectare or 10,000m². To put into context, with 20 people in the area, that is 1 person per 500m². Your bedroom is probably around 16m².
I hardly think they’re taking over the space.
'Delish owner Wally Zahr said the biggest problem was skaters grinding on the curved wooden benches…”
Ok, so the owner of Delish apparently knows what the biggest problem is. Pretty much all architectural developments have skaters on their agenda and usually install metal stops on grindable surfaces to prevent them being damaged. If the council couldn’t foresee this, they are truly not with it.
“If it does deter other people from using the square or walking through then it’s defeating the purpose of the park.”
"…but it might put off people who just want to go and sit there and read a book or something.”
hahaha! IF IT DOES. BUT IT MIGHT. Do you see this?! It is pure speculation.
NOWHERE in the article was anyone actually quoted as saying that they had actually been scared off. All the quotes were from nearby business owners speculating about people maybe being scared off, because a journalist has just approached them about a story regarding skaters “taking over”.
GOOD JOB ADVERTISER, GOOD JOB ON WRITING A STORY ACTUALLY BASED ON NOTHING BUT 20 PEOPLE IN A PUBLIC PARK AND A BUNCH OF SPECULATION.
